‘Heirloom Blend’ Grenache Shiraz Mataro

This wine represent our attempt to showcase the terroir of our estate vineyard in Baskerville and is fast becoming a bit of a cult wine in the Perth scene. In a slight tweak to the Australian GSM blend, Mataro (Aussie for Mourvedré) takes the lead from Grenache and Shiraz as a nod to Bandol in france. All three varieties were separately fermented and unlike the Ivy Maureen below, french oak puncheons were used to preserve fruit character. After extensive bench trials, a final blend was settled upon and the wine was bottled without fining or filtration.

This is an impressively concentrated wine of moderate alcohol content. The dark fruits of this wine are complexed by some earthy, mineral notes that remind me a little of the wines of Priorat, Spain. While smooth, the wine demonstrates its old vine provenance with a poweful mid palate and long finsh.
