The second single vineyard release from this historic vineyard. Vines planted 1913 on deep river loams. These vines are the source block of the Noack clone of Chenin, which is rumoured to be a French clone, in contrast to the South African vine material elsewhere in the valley.
Hand picked fruit was whole bunch pressed to stainless steel for settling without additions. Fermentation in seasoned French oak barriques without lees stirring. Racked to stainless steel after four months maturation.
Lifted ‘yellow jelly baby’, orchard fruit and passionfruit aromatics with a long, textured, citrus accented palate. The 2020 was a mini-sensation in Perth and won some awards nationally, but the 2021 is potentially a better wine.
